India’s Covid-19 caseload surpassed the 90-lakh mark on Friday with 45,882 new cases, while the recoveries surged to 84.28 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 93.6 percent, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The total coronavirus cases mounted to 90,04,365 and the death toll climbed to 1,32,162 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 584 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.
This is the thirteenth consecutive day when India reported less than 50,000 cases in a day. The last time daily new cases crossed the 50,000-threshold was on November 7.
The Covid-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.47 percent.
There are 4,43,794 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 4.93 percent of the total caseload, the data stated.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 12,95,91,786 samples have been tested up to November 20 with 10,83,397 samples being tested on Thursday.
India’s first case was reported on January 30 and reached one million cases more than five months later on July 16 but it took just 13 days to go from three million to four million cases. India passed three million coronavirus disease cases on August 23 and crossed the four million mark on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, and crossed 80 lakh on October 29.
Delhi remains one of the worst affected states with 7,546 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally in the national capital to over 5.1 lakh, even as 98 more fatalities pushed the toll to 8,041, authorities said.
Maharashtra”s Covid-19 tally on Thursday went up to 17,63,055 with the addition of 5,535 cases, a state health official said. As the virus claimed 154 more lives, the fatality count reached 46,356, he said.
Covid-19 vaccine update
Commenting about the vaccine Serum Institute of India Chief Executive Officer Adar Poonawalla on Thursday said that India can expect a coronavirus vaccine by December or early next year, the Hindustan Times reported.

Poonawalla added that Serum Institute plans to apply for an emergency use authorization from Drug Controller General of India V.G. Somani for the vaccine next month, and may get the regulatory green light in January.
