A 62-year-old woman, a resident of Panvel, was rushed to Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai in a critical condition today. She was diagnosed with intracranial Haemorrhage. Sespite all the treatment & efforts, she did not recover and eventually was declared brain dead on September 29th, 2020.
The Doctors treating the woman educated the family on organ donation and with the support of ZTCC, the family agreed to donate her organs with all generosity.
The liver, kidney, and lung were harvested from the deceased donor at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, and a 39-year-old man from Kolhapur, suffering from end stage liver disease was transplanted on the Liver and Kidney was transplanted on other patients from Navi Mumbai.
When no suitable recipient for Lung was found in Maharashtra, a recipient was found in Chennai through ZTCC. In this regard, a “Green Corridor” was organized from Apollo Hospitals, Belapur to Mumbai Airport.
A distance of 30 km was covered in 38 minutes. The lung was transported on a flight to Chennai, to transplant to a patient at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. This will be Apollo Chennai’s 2ndLung Transplant Surgery in a day. Lungs from Apollo, Navi Mumbai, and Surat flew to Chennai to give new lease of life to two different patients.

Besides that, Apolo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai has also performed three Organ Transplant simultaneously in a day- 1 Liver & 2 Kidneys from organs retrieved from an in-house cadaveric donor. The family has lost their loved one, who will nurture life in 4 other people.”
