New Delhi, January 26-In a relieving development, now elderly mental health patients won’t have to roam from one department to another for treatment at King George Medical University (KGMU).

KGMU’s Geriatric unit has decided that from now on it will attend patients with different ailments and other departments. To ensure the same, KGMU has started a training course.

Under the training, physicians, orthopaedics and doctors from various other departments will teach KGMU’s doctors how to do basic treatment of patients. Apart from this, the University has started a Pain Clinic which will see its OPD patients every Thursday and Saturday.

In the Geriatric Mental Health (GMH) department, three new facilities will be available to the patients.

Earlier, these elder patients would be sent to other departments for treatment for ailments other than mental health issues, but now all different kinds of ailments can be treated at one single OPD only.

KGMU Pro-Vice Chancellor has asked Dr. Srikant that along with treating CHC patients, the department should also start treating patients from PHCs situated in remote areas so that distance doesn’t come in the way of treatment.
