Top COVID-19 Variants Circulating in India
- JN.1 Variant

- NB.1.8.1 Variant
First detected in Tamil Nadu in April 2025, the NB.1.8.1 variant is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant. This variant is noted for its higher transmissibility and potential to evade immunity, although it has not been linked to more severe disease.
- LF.7 Variant
The LF.7 variant was identified in Gujarat in May 2025. Preliminary data suggest that LF.7 is more transmissible than earlier strains, but it does not appear to cause more severe illness.
