Common Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause is triggered by the decline of estrogen and progesterone levels, and the symptoms vary for every woman. The most common include:

  • Irregular periods – cycles may become shorter, longer, heavier, or lighter before stopping completely.
  • Hot flashes and night sweats – sudden warmth, flushing, and sweating that disrupt daily life and sleep.
  • Sleep disturbances – difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep due to hormonal imbalance.
  • Vaginal dryness – reduced estrogen levels can cause discomfort, itching, or pain during intimacy.
  • Mood swings and irritability – hormonal fluctuations can trigger anxiety, depression, or emotional instability.
  • Physical changes – weight gain, joint pain, thinning hair, and loss of bone density.

Why Ignoring Symptoms Can Be Dangerous

Dr. Banerjee highlights that untreated menopausal symptoms are not just discomforts—they may lead to serious long-term health concerns. Low estrogen levels increase the risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, urinary infections, and cognitive decline.
