Emphasizing the holistic policy for the health sector, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday said that active global collaboration is needed to make the vision of ‘one earth, one health’ a reality. Mandaviya also said that it is the time India takes the lead on this with a holistic policy-making environment and align it with the philosophy of “vasudhaiva kutumbakam”.
Mandaviya said that India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has a strong political will to lead in innovative research and technology-supported solutions. While speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit 2023, Mandaviya highlighted that the health and well-being of a country have an impact on others and therefore the health sector cannot be limited to one nation.
“The ‘one earth, one health’ vision can become a reality only with active global collaboration where countries don’t think of only themselves but of collective global outcomes,” the minister said while speaking at the summit themed “One Health: Integrated, Collaborative and Multisectoral Approach to Optimal Health”.

“We live in an interdependent world and we are influenced by the health of the surrounding environment and animals,” he stated. The coronavirus pandemic has already demonstrated that no one is immune from such situations and therefore it should be our collective responsibility to protect ourselves.

“Our collective responsibility should not only be to protect ourselves but also to make sure that our actions result in protecting the environment we co-exist in,” he stressed. Mandaviaya, while highlighting India’s leading role in indigenous research and the way it came forward during the COVID-19 pandemic, said that it is extremely important to learn from each other’s best practices to enrich our models and work.
