Enhancing the body’s natural defence system (immunity) plays an important role in maintaining optimum health. While there is no medicine for COVID-19 as of now, it will be good to take preventive measures which boost our immunity in these times.

Good nutrition has always been important for our health. But we should be more careful about what we eat and what we must avoid during the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. Our immune system needs to fight back.

While we all understand that immunity is the self-defence against the covid virus. But we need to know where it begins. Almost 70-80% of immunity begins in our digestive system, says, Ishi Khosla.

Ms. Ishi Khosla is a practicing clinical nutritionist, columnist, author, an entrepreneur, researcher and welfare worker.

She is actively involved in clinical practice at the Centre For Dietary Counseling in Delhi where she deals with a wide range of nutrition related health problems including obesity, diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, food allergies, digestive, immune system, neuro psychiatric and endocrine disorders in adults and children. To scale up her practice and reach out to a global audience Ms. Khosla has founded a unique score based nutrition App called theweightmonitor.com.

Today, she held a live session on Healthwire’s Facebook page.

During the session, she talked about range of issues related to diet and immunity, and importance of following a good diet plan.

You must have heard ‘You are what you eat’. This is an over-used Cliché. But it is a fact. If we respect our body, if we treat it well, it will serve us well, she said

Since food is the biggest thing that helps to nourish our body, we should eat sensibly, to build a good immune system.

What should be the diet plan for Covid? To this question, Mrs Khosla answers that “diet which is meeting your health requirements, which means it is nutritionally sound, have enough protein, vitamins, minerals, and is well digestive, is a good diet, irrespective of whether we are living in a normal time, or living in the midst of Covid fear.

We have immunity boosting supplements. We have immunity boosting herbs, spices and several other foods, that can boost our immunity. But a good diet is a combination of all of these, she says.
